This programme examines the basic areas of mechanical engineering, design, materials and manufacturing technology, and aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge required for a career as a mechanical engineering technician. Specific areas of studies include engineering principles, mathematics, computing, environmental engineering, and material-science engineering.

In addition, students will undergo an industrial training which will ideally expose them to work-based projects, giving them the chance to achieve problem solving skills in an industrial setting.

Career Opportunities

Graduates are qualified to be mechanical engineering technicians in various industries such as manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection and maintenance.

Entry Requirement

  1. SPM / SPMV / O-Level: Pass with minimum 3 credits / Grade C including Mathematics and 1 relevant Science/ Technical/ Vocational subject and pass in English; or
  2. UEC: Pass with minimum Grade B in 3 subjects including Mathematics and 1 relevant Science/ Technical/ Vocational subject and pass in English; or
  3. SKM Level 3: Pass in a related field and pass in SPM with credit in Mathematics; or
  4. Certificates: Pass in recognised programmes from Polytechnics or from ITP or its equivalent; or
  5. Community College Certificate: Pass Level 3 MQF in a relevant field and pass SPM with credit in Mathematics*; or
  6. STPM / A-Level: Pass with minimum Grade C in any subject and credit in Mathematics in SPM;
  7. Other equivalent qualifications recognised by the Malaysian Government.
*(Candidates without credit in Mathematics in SPM/equivalent may be considered for admission into this programme if the certificate programme contains subjects that are equivalent to SPM Mathematics)

International students must pass:
  • IELTS minimum Band 5.0; or
  • TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 
  • MUET minimum Band 3 
  • Cambridge/Edexcel GCE A-Level

Program Educational Objective

PEO1: Competent with knowledge, skills and aptitude while utilizing current Mechanical Engineering tools and techniques to meet job specifications and continue further studies.

PEO2: Equipped with effective communication skills to convey information, problems and solutions within social and ethical responsibilities.

PEO3: Possess interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills for lifelong learning and career development in line with national education philosophy.

Program Learning Outcome

PLO1: Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences and Mechanical Engineering fundamental procedures and practices.

PLO2: Identify, formulate, research literature and analyse broadly defined Mechanical Engineering problems reaching substained conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PLO3: Design Mechanical Engineering system with respect to operation and maintenance, including solving problems considering public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental aspects.

PLO4: Conduct investigation of broadly defined problems using relevant data from codes, design principles, databases and literature while conducting experiments to provide valid conclusions.

PLO5: Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools to predict and model the broadly defined Mechanical Engineering problems with an understanding of the limitations.

PLO6: Apply reasoning informed by multi-contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to broadly defined Mechanical Engineering practice.

PLO7: Demonstrate the impact of engineering solutions for sustainability in societal and environmental contexts based upon new developments.

PLO8: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

PLO9: Perform effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams to achieve common goals.

PLO10: Communicate effectively on broadly defined Mechanical Engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as to comprehend, write effective reports, design documentation and make effective presentations.

PLO11: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering, entrepreneurship and management principles while applying these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PLO12: Recognise the importance of professional development and engagement in life-long learning in a constantly evolving nature of mechanical engineering technologies
