The “Awareness Week” is back again with full of information and education booths! The Student Affairs Department (STAD) will be organizing the “Legenda Education Group Awareness Week – Information Booths” as follows:

These promotion booths will display relevant materials and information in order to instil awareness, knowledge and understanding of certain issues to Legenda Education Group students and staff, and also as a reference of individual rights.

Students can interact directly with these personnel from the respective Malaysian Agencies.

The Student Affairs Department (STAD) will be organizing the “Charity Week 2012” for the fourth year which will be held as follows:

As part of this Charity Week event, we would like to initiate a fund collection drive from all students and staff of Linton University College. This contribution will be channelled to help the unfortunate i.e. Handicapped, Child and Women Protection Homes in order to help them in their daily lives and part of “Social Corporate Responsibility”.

Contributions

The contribution drive for the Charity Fund will include all usable items but must be in good condition as listed below:

• Monetary contribution/ donation – Charity Fund.
• Used clothing/ books in good condition.
• Canned or packed foods i.e. sardine, sugar, flour, rice etc.

BA (Hons) Product Design Futures final-year student Sim Chia Yi emerged as the winner of the MIFF Ideation Award 2012 after beating out nine other finalists selected from a total of 178 entries. The Ideation Award, which was themed “My Favorite Chair” this year, aimed at discovering outstanding young furniture designers to promote development of the furniture industry in Malaysia.

23-year-old Sim from the Academy of Architecture and the Visual Arts (AAVA) of Linton University College won over the judges with her entry entitled “Just Like Old Time”, a seating device that allows users to sit comfortably in various positions, particularly the “bersila” or cross-legged position common in the Malaysian culture.

The entry saw Sim tastefully integrating traditional culture and contemporary lifestyle into her seat design. The wok-shaped chair is elegantly weaved from local rattan and finished with a firm, detachable seat cushion. Sim walked away with RM5,000 for her winning entry.

The Ideation award was hosted by the founder and organiser of the annual Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF), MIFF Sdn. Bhd., and design expert Arcadius Consulting Sdn. Bhd. The panel of judges consisted of four international and three national illustrious furniture designers.

The main objective of the “Legenda Open Tournament 2012″ is to encourage student participation in co-curricular activities particularly in sport competitiveness and promote teamwork while striving for academic excellence. This will indirectly create a balanced development for students of Legenda Education Group whereby physical health and academic performance can be achieved.

This initiative, planned by the Student Affairs Department for students of Legenda Education Group, is also a concerted effort to unite and create a harmonious student community on campus through sports.

We are pleased to announce the upcoming “2012 Legenda Career Fair” scheduled on 20th and 21st March, 2012. The Career Fair will provide the opportunity for students to understand the requirements in the job market, career options and many more.

It will also provide students with the first hand information on the how and what employers look for out there. Some of the events and activities taking place under the 2012 Legenda Career Fair include the followings:

• Employment prospect booths of participating companies.
• Various awareness and information booths.
• A Career Forum on the subject entitled “The Right Attitude for Career Excellence (T.R.A.C.E)”
• The Career Forum members will feature panel invitees from industries such as Manufacturing, Banking and Entrepreneur Development.
• Career Talks covering various topics and subjects by distinguished speakers from the Corporate and Public Sectors.

More than 200 local and international students gathered at Masjid Nurul Iman, Kg. Gebok to hold a gotong royong on Saturday morning, 11th February 2012. The event was in collaboration with the local community and six government agencies. Students and staff were divided into groups to clean up various segments of Kg. Gebok accompanied by some 30 government agencies workers.

According to Dr. Kamis Awang, Vice Chancellor of Linton University College, the joint effort was part of “Corporate Social Responsibility” project to make young people to be conscious and caring of their community.

The Year of the Dragon is associated with the earthly branch symbol and is considered the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac. This event is to encourage students’ participation in activities and events in order to promote teamwork while striving for academic excellence.

This initiative planned by the Student Affairs Department for students of Legenda Education Group is a concerted effort to unite and create a harmonious students’ community and a balanced development for students whereby an academic performance can be achieved.
